First Lady Designates Nine New Preserve America Stewards

WASHINGTON, D.C. — First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama has signed designation letters for nine new Preserve America Stewards, bringing the total nationwide to 30.
“Preserve America Stewards are volunteer programs that have accomplished successful efforts in preserving the nation’s historic places,” said Wayne Donaldson, chairman of the federal Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP). “Historic preservation has always relied upon motivated, active volunteers who understand that it is an individual as well as community responsibility to make certain that significant historic places remain to enrich and enlighten present and future generations.”
The newest Preserve America Stewards are the following:
Maryland: Society for the Preservation of Federal Hill and Fell’s Point
In recognition of its preservation of the Leeke Academy and Captains Hotel.
Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, Sandy Spring Lodge 6430
In recognition of its Odd Fellows Lodge Preservation Committee.
Michigan: DeTour Reef Light Preservation Society
In recognition of its preservation of the DeTour Reef Light.
New Mexico: Valles Caldera National Preserve
In recognition of its Valles Caldera Aspen Dendroglyph Survey.
Ohio: Olmsted Historical Society
In recognition of its preservation of the Frostville Museum Complex.
Pennsylvania: Independence National Historical Park
In recognition of its Independence Living History Center Archeology Laboratory.
Texas: Texas Historical Commission
In recognition of its Texas Archeological Stewardship Network.
German Texan Heritage Society
In recognition of its preservation of the German Free School.
Virginia: Fairfield Foundation
In recognition of its preservation of the Fairfield Archaeological Site.
