Brandywine Battlefield will host a special program on Sunday, July 19th at 2pm. The program, titled "The Forts of the Delaware River," will be presented by Dr. Jeffrey Dorwart, history professor at Rutger's University and author of Fort Mifflin of Philadelphia.
This program will focus on the Revolutionary War history of the defensive forts along the Delaware River. Forts Mifflin and Mercer will be discussed in detail. During the Fall of 1777 and large-scale land and sea campaign was undertaken by the British forces under Lord Howe against these two forts.
This program is free and open to the public. Park staff will be on hand to answer questions about the battle and life in the Brandywine River Valley. The museum and gift shop will be open and the 18-minute video will be shown periodically.
Brandywine Battlefield Park is the site of the American camps prior to the 1777 Battle of Brandywine. General George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette made their quarters here. The reconstructed Benjamin Ring House and the original Gideon Gilpin House are among the park's features located on 53 rolling acres in the Brandywine River Valley.
Brandywine Battlefield Park is located just off U.S. Route 1 approximately a mile south of U.S. Route 202. The Park is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and is supported by the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates.
